Apple to Add Baidu as iPhone Search Option in China


Following a rumor in late Marchclaiming that Apple will be adding an optional Baidu search engine on the iPhone in China,Bloomberg reports that Apple is really taking this step,announcing more likely in Worldwide Developers Conferencenext weekWhile customers will have the option to choose Baiduas the main vehicle for searching the WebGoogle product willprobably remainthe default choicesaid a personCurrently,iPhone and iPad users in China can access Baidu search by downloading separately as an applicationBaidu maintains a80% Share in search market in Chinamaking it a natural additionto Apple as it seeks to drive overall growthwith emphasis on the consumer market booming there. Bloomberg points outalsoclaims that Apple will announce next week that Google Maps isabandoning the IOSthe solution for its own mappingbut the report provided no other details on the company's plans for transition.
